LIVE: The Ocean Race Atlantic fleet departs New York

The Foil is live streaming The Ocean Race Atlantic's send-off from New York at midday local time today (1 September, 16:00 UTC).

Worth being clear on what you're watching, though: this is the parade past the Statue of Liberty and dockout from Brooklyn Bridge Marina, not the race start itself. The six-boat IMOCA fleet won't actually cross the start line until 6am local time tomorrow, Wednesday 2 September, set around 100 miles offshore to keep clear of whale and marine mammal activity near the harbour approaches. From there it's a flat-out 3,200-mile sprint to Lorient – the first point-to-point race in the event's history, and the first with a mandatory two-women, two-men crew on every boat.
